Hey all.
The trial for the murder of George Floyd has concluded, the officer who committed the crime guilty on all charges. In a tale of tragedy, it is the best of outcomes. And, perhaps, the results of this terrible moment will help prevent more of them in the future. We're only just beginning.
We all need to continue the effort to answer the problem of white supremacy and broken policing. Volunteer with groups doing the work in your region. Donate money to those groups and those doing work elsewhere, if you're able. Keep talking to your government, even if they'd rather not listen.
"This is not the end of anything. This is the beginning of something." -Van Jones
Your mix for this week includes the life affirming magic of Big Freedia, the somber contemplation of Adrian Younge, and the invigorating soul of Dominique Fils-Aimé, and that's just a sampling. Check out this week's tunes and, remember, if you find something you like, directly support the artist by buying the album, grabbing some merch, and, hopefully soon, getting yourself a concert ticket. Enjoy:

Reads of the Week:
What we have here is not even a failure of imagination, but simply a failure of action. We have the ideas. We have the tools. It's incredible how little we've done, but there's hope in the action we have available to us.
Can we all agree that we do not need to spend our time, resources, and legislation on interfering with people simply living their lives? Yes. Let's move on.
Incredible statistics (give attention to "NPR's other findings"):
"Since 2015, police officers have fatally shot at least 135 unarmed Black men and women nationwide"
Officers with troubled pasts, officers fired at other agencies only to be hired elsewhere
Crimes while on duty

Pay attention. Stay vigilant. Share some joy with those you love. Share some joy with a stranger.
Take care of each other. Here's to life!
WQPM playlists are a collection of ten songs I've been listening to this week, crossing genre, era, and taste. No themes here, just the tunes I've been sticking in my ears lately. The newest Weekly Quick Pick Mix is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
