The thing I do here is share & discuss music (and other things) that I love, in hopes that you'll find new art to fill your world, that we'll support the artists making it, and, (probably more than anything), so I'm able to enjoy loving these things with other people.
Today is Juneteenth. I expect you are seeing the history of Junteenth all over today (check out this article particular to the holiday here in Michigan). Additionally, we are in the midst of an unprecedented moment in the work toward social justice in America.
With that in mind, and recognizing that my past focus has often skewed toward white artists, this week's Weekly Quick Pick Mix is focusing solely on Black artists. Enjoy these musicians and take some time to seek out other Black artists that may be new to your ears.
Today, Bandcamp is donating 100% of its share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. It's a great opportunity to hop on Bandcamp.com to find Black musicians, support them with your purchase and support the work of the NAACP as Bandcamp donates their portion. This fantastic tool has been created to help you find Black artists by genre or location, and to direct you to their Bandcamp page to listen and purchase. There's even a handy shuffle tool to toss on some music as you go about your day.
Support Black artists, entrepreneurs, and the mission for equality and justice.
This moment is important. We will not let it fade.
poor people gonna rise up
and get their share
WQPM playlists are a collection of ten songs I've been listening to this week, crossing genre, era, and taste. No themes here, just the tunes I've been sticking in my ears lately. The newest Weekly Quick Pick Mix is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
