August 20th Weekly Quick Pick Mix

fight for the life and soul of the world we know, fight 'cause the promise is never gonna be enough

---------------------------------

Hey everyone!

A quick programming note; there will be no Weekly Quick Pick Mix next week and, likely, the week after. I'm venturing off to Alaska and, while I'm sure I'll still be listening to great music, I do not intend to be connected to this magical series of tubes we call the Internet.

As we appear to be descending back to some level of COVID hell, I find myself increasingly frustrated with bad faith arguments about "freedom", calls made while people are dying and when we all could do just a little to be a huge part of the solution.

With that out of my system, I will remind myself and anyone reading that there is reason to be optimistic. Science ain't magic, but damn, it sure does feel that way sometimes with all the cool advances it brings us. And an additional reminder to myself and anyone else is that these loud, ugly voices are not those of the majority.

But, those of us who shake our heads at the nonsense, regardless of political affiliation, must do the work.

This week, find a new way to get out into your community and help. You don't have to sign up as a volunteer at some official organization; just do something nice for your neighbor, if that's your thing. Just do something. Contribute. Build. Be fucking nice.

Together we rise.

Ok. That's what I've got.

Enjoy these tunes and links.

Take care. Have fun. Spread some love.

-Justin

Reads of the Week:

Remembering Sidney Lumet’s Forgotten Masterpiece ‘Network’: After 45 Years of Persistent Premonition, Predication, and Proliferation

"Aaron Sorkin has said of the film, “…no predictor of the future—not even Orwell—has ever been as right as Chayefsky was when he wrote ‘Network’.” "

"impeccably realized, what truly earns the film the right to remain an incredibly important cultural document in the 21st Century is its preposterously prophetic central message"
