Welcome to the August 21st Weekly Quick Pick Mix or "How I've Been Coping With The Year That Is 2020". I don't know about ya'll, but music is getting me through this year (you know, along with my wife, friends, etc.).
So I did a thing last week. My wife, Kristin, and I took what counts as a vacation in 2020. Instead of traveling to places far or exotic or adventurous (Ireland had been a possibility this year), we rented a house a few hours away and basically stayed-in there. You know, doing what we've been doing here, just...there.
It was actually much better than that sounds. The house was on a quiet lake near a beach town and lots of hiking trails. We had a full kitchen and all the amenities so we could stay in, cook, play board games, listen to music, kayak, and just hang out. It was fun.
The best part? I deleted all social media from my phone. And I haven't added it back since.
I already had most of those apps removed from my phone, but it was freeing to complete the process. It was even more freeing to not look at any of that, not on my phone, not on my computer, not anywhere. I did not miss it. Even now that I'm back to the real world, I'm keeping those items to a minimum and only on the computer. Highly recommended.
You know what you can do with your time when you're not spending it on social media? Read a book. Go for a hike. Register to vote. Start a new hobby. Write your Members of Congress. Call your Members of Congress. Wave a sign for racial justice in front of your Member of Congress' office. Vote.
Most importantly, you can be out there doing the work to support justice in America and you can spend the rest of your time enjoying the people in your world.
So do that. Drop that social (except for checking in on Red Chuck Productions from time to time, of course).
Take care. Keep up the fight.
WQPM playlists are a collection of ten songs I've been listening to this week, crossing genre, era, and taste. No themes here, just the tunes I've been sticking in my ears lately. The newest Weekly Quick Pick Mix is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
